Tallington Lakes

Situated at the heart of the fens of South Lincolnshire between the picturesque market towns of Bourne and Stamford, Tallington Lakes is a residential lake with a twist.

With 205 acres of spring water-fed lakes ideal for water sports activities, a 15-metre climbing wall and two dry ski slopes (one of which is 120 metres), there is an activity on offer for every sports enthusiast. Add to that camping facilities, a lake-side bar, and a huge Pro Shop selling all the necessary equipment, Tallington Lakes is a hidden gem.

I used to visit Tallington Lakes on school ski trips and, as I grew older, I returned independently to hone my skiing technique with one of the highly skilled instructors.

As a family, when looking for things to do in Lincolnshire, we spent many summer days kayaking on the tranquil lakes with the sun beaming down. As Tallington Lakes transitions into their summer season, it is the optimum time to visit as all the activities are available.

What To Do

If you are a water-baby, head to the sailing centre for water-skiing, windsurfing, sailing, kayaking, or even try some yoga while on stand up paddle boards! For water-skiers, your boat driver will be one of the water-sports team who will ensure you receive advice on how to improve.

For those who prefer to keep their feet dry, head to the climbing wall or ski slope and try your hand at climbing, skiing, or snowboarding. With private tuition, group lessons, ski and snowboard day courses, and with recreational options available, you can make your trip match your needs.

Additionally, if you are experienced enough to be able to link your turns, control your speed and use the lift, you can ski/snowboard whenever the slopes are available and ski independently.

During the winter, there are specific recreational hours in the form of ‘skier’s evenings’ which anyone can attend. There’s also the ‘cappuskino’; a female-tailored recreational hour.

Overseen by one of the instructors, Tallington Lakes’ recreational sessions ensure that specific guidance can be provided while you socialise on the slopes.

However, Tallington Lakes isn’t just for the individual. If you are a family, the centre has plenty to offer as well.

You can head off to toboggan on the nursery slope at £5 per person, or book in for a main slope tobogganing party. Meanwhile, in the summer you can kayak for a nominal charge and splash about to your heart’s content.

Staying on site?

Tallington Lakes draws you in with its superb camping facilities as well. There are electric and non-electric pitches, as well as hard-standing pitches if you want to stay a week and explore with your caravan in tow.

Whilst the camping ensured I stayed, the Pro Shop meant I also left with lots of bargains in tow! A 500 sq/m independent store full to the brim with water and snow sports gear – it is a shopaholic’s dream!
