Whisby Nature Park is open all year round and covers 375 acres of woodland, heathland and lakes – and is only 5 miles from Lincoln City Centre.
Formerly a series of quarries, it has been transformed by Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust back to its natural glory.
Whisby is now a haven for birds and other wildlife, and is the perfect place to unwind and reconnect with nature.
In spring-time you can hear nightingales sing and watch the fascinating courtship dance of the great crested grebe. The Orchid Glade is a mass of beautiful purple southern marsh orchids during the summer months.
This family-friendly nature park is a great place to bring the kids.
There’s plenty to occupy the whole family including some excellent marked trails and walks, picnic areas, plus a brilliant play area – where children can see the world from the perspective of a mole!
If you want to treat yourself, then The Boardwalk Cafe is renown for its delicious Tastes of Lincolnshire home-cooked food and has superb views over Whisby’s largest lake.
To get the most out of your visit, take one of the 6 marked trails – these trails are mainly hard-surfaced and will give you the best views of the lakes, water birds and woodland.
Thorpe Walk – spectacular views of Thorpe Lake
Grebe Walk – views of the abundant wildfowl on Grebe Lake
Teal Walk – takes you past Grebe Lake and onto the banks of Teal Lake
Coot Walk – along the banks of Pike Drain and into oak woodland
Magpie Walk – across open grazing marshland
Willow Walk – follows the trail of Magpie Walk and then across woodland to Willow Lake
The Natural World Centre at Whisby Nature Park is a visitor centre with a difference. As well as featuring ever-changing exhibitions, it also runs a series of events throughout the year: from weekly Life Trail Health Walks for older visitors wanting to make new friends and keep fit (every Wednesday at 11.30am), to adult workshops and children’s school holiday activities.
