"The White Hart Hotel offers luxury boutique hotel-style accommodation in the heart of Lincoln's Cathedral Quarter"
The White Hart Hotel offers luxury boutique hotel-style accommodation in the heart of Lincoln’s Cathedral Quarter. Tracing its origins back to a 14th century coaching inn, the White Hart Hotel has undergone many transformations over the years.
Not only is this former coaching inn located on Ermine Street, the old Roman London-York road, the world’s very first tank was designed within its walls.
It was in a room at the White Hart hotel that local engineer William Ashbee Tritton and Naval Lieutenant Walter G Wilson, developed a fighting tank with caterpillar wheels capable of negotiating the terrible mud of World War One battlefields. In 1915, this tank, known as ‘Little Willy’ became the world’s first prototype.
Commemorate plaques marking this incredible achievement can be found in The White Hart Hotel today.
