For a quintessentially English day out, don’t miss the Heckington Show. This show has been lauded as one of the top agricultural shows in the country, and in terms of family entertainment, it’s hard to beat.
The Heckington Show is a relaxed, celebratory event which fuses the intimacy of a typical village show with the top-quality entertainment you’d expect to see on a national stage. It takes place every July, and it’s a great way to while away a summer’s day!
This fantastic family day out attracts over 30,000 visitors every year, and spans a huge area of over 80 acres. The event itself is a hive of activity, with a vast array of different entertainers on hand to amaze and delight guests of all ages.
The activity zone is a huge hit with children, with so much to see and do. Typical activities on offer include model boats, cookery demonstrations, animal encounters, messy play stalls, a skate ramp, football with Lincoln City FC and rugby games and coaching from Leicester Tigers Rugby Club.
If you’re interested in history, you’ll love the Heritage Area. Here you can find out everything you need to know about crafts from times gone by. There’s so much to entertain guests of all ages here, and many opportunities to get involved in craft projects, too. Learn about pottery, see how to make corn dollies or even have a go at chair making.
Horticulture is a huge part of any agricultural show, and the Heckington Show is no exception. There’s a whole area dedicated to agriculture, and here you’ll find floral art, honey, wine, handicrafts, art and horticulture stalls.
Take a look at the bounty of local producers and cast your eyes over the jaw-dropping entrants for this year’s vegetable competitions! You could even enter yourself, if you think your crops might have prize-winning potential. There are dedicated competitions for local residents and Heckington Gardening Club members, too.
For music lovers, the Concert Marquee plays host to local talent throughout the event. Take a seat and enjoy an eclectic mix of music, with soloists, live bands, acoustic acts and so much more. This marquee is run in partnership with BBC Radio Lincolnshire, who transmit live from the show for the whole two days. Look out for the radio station’s presenters in and around the Concert Marquee.
The Dog Show is a huge attraction at the Heckington Show, it’s an absolute must for dog-lovers everywhere! Prizes are awarded to best in show, best puppy in show, best veteran in show and much more. It’s a great opportunity to see a huge selection of prize-winning canines, and find out what they can really do.
The Heckington Show is also home to several competitions, which never fail to impress visitors! There are athletics contests and cycle races taking place throughout the two day event, and the competition is fierce.
On the Saturday evening, the Heckington Show also hosts a spectacular firework display, complete with open-air concert. For this event, gates open at 6.45pm for a 7pm start. There really is no better way to enjoy a summer’s evening in Lincolnshire.
